Rick's Cafe is a re-creation of the famous restaurant from the movie Casablanca. Expect a lively spot with piano music, decent Moroccan and international food, and a crowd of tourists mixed with locals. It's not a quiet romantic hideaway — more like a themed dinner theater without the show. The decor tries hard to match the film with arched doorways, moody lighting, and a central bar, but it feels a bit staged. Service is usually efficient though it can slow down when busy. Go for the atmosphere and a photo, not for life-changing cuisine.
Best time to visit is shoulder season (spring or fall) when Casablanca isn't scorching or packed with European tour groups. Evenings are obviously the move; aim for a reservation around 8pm so you catch the piano player in full swing. Expect to pay around 500-800 MAD per person for a full dinner with a drink or two — it's firmly in tourist-trap pricing. The set menus can be decent value compared to ordering à la carte.
Tip: Skip the tagines (they're average) and go for the pastilla or grilled seafood instead. Book ahead in high season or you'll be stuck at the bar. If you're only in town for one night and want the movie nostalgia hit, it's fun once. Otherwise, there are better meals to be had elsewhere in the city.
