Sainte-Chapelle is a small Gothic chapel famous for its wall-to-wall stained glass that turns the interior into a kaleidoscope when the sun hits it. Expect a quick visit – you’ll be in and out in 20-40 minutes unless you linger. The lower chapel is dark and modest; the upper one is the showstopper. Security lines can be long and the space gets very crowded, with neck-craning and people constantly moving through. It’s genuinely beautiful on a sunny day but can feel underwhelming on overcast ones or when packed with tour groups.
Best time is spring or early fall. Expect to pay around €12-20 for a standard ticket, more like €30-55 if you bundle it with a guided tour or skip-the-line option. Go early morning or late afternoon to avoid the worst crowds. Skip the audio guide if you’re short on time – the windows tell the biblical stories clearly enough on their own. Pair it with Conciergerie next door if you buy a joint ticket; otherwise just do Sainte-Chapelle solo and keep it short. It’s worth seeing once, especially if you love stained glass, but it’s not a full-morning activity.
