A Segway tour is one of the easier ways to cover Porto’s steep hills without destroying your feet. Expect a 2- to 3-hour guided ride that takes in the Ribeira waterfront, the steep streets around the cathedral, Luís I Bridge views, and a few squares in the historic center. After a short training session (usually 10-15 minutes), you ride in a small group at a relaxed pace. The guide stops every 15–20 minutes to explain what you’re looking at. It’s not thrilling if you’ve ridden one before, but it beats walking uphill in 30°C heat or trying to follow a walking tour while watching your step on cobblestones.
Best time is spring (April–June) or autumn (September–October). Summers are hot and crowded; winter can be wet and slippery on the granite streets. Expect to pay around €55–85 per person for a standard 2-hour city highlights tour. Sunset tours cost a bit more but book up faster. Private tours run higher, usually €130–180 for two people.
Pick a small-group tour (max 6–8 people) so you can actually hear the guide. Skip the longer 3-hour versions unless you really love slow riding; most people are ready to get off after two hours. Wear flat shoes with good grip — flip-flops are a bad idea on Segways.
