Snorkeling in Aruba: What You Should Know

Aruba's snorkeling is straightforward and relaxing rather than mind-blowing. Expect warm, calm water with decent visibility, plenty of tropical fish, and a few reefs. The most common trips take you to two or three spots, often including the shallow Antilla shipwreck where you can swim around the rusting structure. Trips last 3–4 hours total. It's suitable for beginners and families since the water is rarely rough, but don't expect untouched wilderness; these are popular sites that see multiple boats daily.

The best time is April through October when seas are usually flattest and visibility is best. Avoid January–March if possible; trade winds can make the water choppy and reduce clarity. Expect to pay around $60–$95 per person for a standard half-day catamaran trip that includes snorkel gear, a guide, snacks, and drinks. Private or smaller-boat options push closer to $120+.

Pick a morning departure; the water is calmer and fish are more active. Skip the big party-catamaran trips if you want a relaxed experience; they're loud and crowded. Bring your own reef-safe sunscreen and consider a shorty wetsuit or rash guard even though the water is warm; it protects against sunburn and jellyfish stings.
