Should You Take the Submarine Dive in Aruba?

A ride on one of Aruba’s tourist submarines drops you about 130 feet down for 30–40 minutes of viewing time. You’ll glide past coral reefs and wrecks while a guide narrates. The ride is calm and air-conditioned; no scuba experience needed. Expect lots of tropical fish, a few rays or turtles if you’re lucky, and the odd shipwreck on the deeper dives. The whole excursion usually lasts 1.5–2 hours including boat transfer from the dock. It’s genuinely relaxing — more “movie theater with a view” than adventure sport.

Best time is April through October when seas are usually flattest and visibility is good. December–March can be rougher and more crowded with holiday traffic. Expect to pay around $100–$130 for the full submarine; the semi-sub (glass-bottom boat) runs about $60–$75 and stays on the surface. The real sub is worth it if you want depth and the “I went 130 feet underwater” story; the semi-sub is fine if you just want to see fish without committing.

Tip: pick the afternoon slot if you want fewer kids onboard. Skip the add-on photo package — the windows are big enough that your phone through the glass works fine. Bring a light sweater; it gets chilly once you’re down deep.
