Is teamLab Planets Tokyo Worth It?

teamLab Planets is an immersive digital art installation where you walk barefoot through giant rooms of projected light, water, flowers, and mirrors. Expect to get wet (there are shallow pools), spend 2–3 hours total, and share the space with a lot of other people taking photos. The experience is visually spectacular but can feel chaotic when crowded. It’s more of a contemporary art-meets-Instagram playground than a serene museum. The four main rooms and two small outdoor gardens are the core; everything feels very large-scale and futuristic.

Best time is weekday mornings right after opening, especially in winter or early spring when crowds are lighter. Avoid weekends and Japanese holidays if possible. Expect to pay around $45–65 for a standard timed ticket. Adding the optional tea experience or upgrading to a less-crowded slot pushes it toward $80–100. Book in advance; same-day tickets are rare.

Honest tips: Go early and choose the first or second morning slot. Skip the overpriced official photo package — your phone works fine. The moss garden after the water rooms is surprisingly peaceful and worth lingering in. If you dislike crowds or getting your feet wet, this might not be for you.
