It’s impressive in scale but lacks the density of carvings or statues you’ll find at the Parthenon; it’s more about standing among 15 surviving colossal columns and imagining its former grandeur. The site is straightforward, rarely crowded compared to the Acropolis, and combines easily with a visit to the nearby National Gardens or Panathenaic Stadium.

Best time to visit is spring (March-May) or fall (September-October) when temperatures are pleasant and lines are short. In summer it gets baking hot with almost no shade. Expect to pay around $8-15 for a basic ticket; guided or private half-day tours that include the temple plus other central sights typically run $40-70 per person. Skip the self-guided audio tour if you’re short on time or already have a good guidebook—the information panels are decent. Do pair it with the Acropolis if you’re doing a half-day classical route; the contrast between the two sites is striking and the combined ticket option saves money.
