UN Geneva Tour: Worth It?

The UN tour at Geneva's Palais des Nations is a straightforward one-hour guided walk through the main building. You'll see the grand Assembly Hall, the Human Rights Council chamber with its famous ceiling, and a few conference rooms. Expect decent historical explanations mixed with current UN work. Security is tight – no large bags, thorough checks, and you can't wander the grounds. The experience is informative but somewhat dry; it's best for people genuinely interested in international diplomacy rather than casual sightseeing. The visitor entrance is on the side opposite the Red Cross museum.

Go between April and October when tours run most frequently. Spring and early autumn are ideal – fewer crowds than summer and better weather for the walk from the tram. Expect to pay around 20-25 CHF per adult, with discounts for students, seniors, and disabled visitors. The whole visit including security and any wait time takes 90-120 minutes. Skip the add-on city tours that bundle the UN with the Flower Clock and old town – they're rushed and not worth it. Pick an English-language tour that focuses only on the Palais if you want depth without the tourist-trap extras.
