The USS Arizona Memorial is a somber, moving experience. You take a short navy-run boat from the Pearl Harbor visitor center to the white memorial that sits directly above the sunken battleship. Expect to spend about 75 minutes total: a 23-minute documentary film, the boat ride, and time on the memorial itself where you look down at the wreck and the oil still leaking from it 80+ years later. It's quiet, respectful, and hits harder than most people expect. The site gets extremely busy; crowds and timed entry tickets are the biggest reality check.

Best time to visit is early morning in winter (December-February) when it's cooler and lines are shorter. Summer is hot, humid, and packed. Expect to pay around $60-90 per person if you book any guided tour from Waikiki that includes transport and Pearl Harbor tickets. Independent visitors can get free timed tickets through recreation.gov but they disappear fast. One honest tip: skip the overpriced luxury boat tours. The standard experience is perfectly good. Do book the earliest possible slot you can get and bring water - there isn't any for sale once you're in the secure area.
