Is Zurich Zoo Worth Visiting?

Zurich Zoo is a solid, well-kept zoo with over 360 species and thoughtfully designed habitats. Expect a full day of walking on mostly gentle hills. The Masoala Rainforest hall and the outdoor Asian elephant area are the clear highlights; animals here have decent space and you can get reasonably close. Many other enclosures are fine but not spectacular. It gets busy on weekends and Swiss holidays, with families everywhere. On a weekday morning you’ll have more breathing room and the animals tend to be more active.

Best time is late spring through early fall (May–September) when everything is open and the weather lets you stay outside comfortably. In winter some outdoor animals are less visible and several indoor exhibits can feel crowded. Expect to pay around 30–40 CHF per adult, 15–25 CHF for kids, and roughly 80–110 CHF for a family of four including food and a couple of small extras. A full visit usually takes 4–6 hours.

Tip: Prioritize the rainforest dome and elephant park early, then decide whether the rest is worth your remaining time and energy. Skip the small petting area if you’ve seen similar ones elsewhere; it’s nothing special. Bring your own water and snacks—zoo food is decent but expensive.
