Kájov is one of the oldest Marian pilgrimage sites in Bohemia, first documented in the 13th century under the Cistercian Zlatá Koruna monastery. Visitors come to see the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Chapel of the Death of the Virgin Mary, and a complex of pilgrimage structures including a rectory and hospice, many dating from Baroque reconstruction following a 1469 fire. The site is staffed by the Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, who provide guided church tours.
