Koishikawa Korakuen is one of Tokyo's oldest Japanese gardens, built in the early Edo Period at the residence of the Mito branch of the Tokugawa family, featuring ponds, stones, trees and man-made hills that recreate famous Japanese and Chinese landscapes in miniature. Visitors walk prescribed trails around the garden's three ponds and viewpoints, with particular beauty during autumn when dozens of maple trees turn vibrant orange and red, and during spring cherry blossom season.
