The Chiaramonti Museum displays over one thousand examples of antique sculpture within a long loggia connecting the Palace of the Belvedere to the Vatican Palaces, established in 1806 after Napoleon's seizure and subsequent recovery of papal artworks. Visitors encounter one of the most important collections of Roman portrait busts alongside idealistic and funerary sculpture, arranged with architectural elements and frescoes to illustrate the relationship between the three sister arts: sculpture, architecture, and painting.
