Vyšší Brod is a Cistercian monastery located about 30 km south of Český Krumlov on the Vltava river, founded in 1259 and constructed over two centuries. Visitors can explore the extensive monastery complex featuring a Latin-cross church with Gothic vaults, a unique European-style chapter hall with distinctive vaulting, Renaissance and Baroque architectural elements, and the surrounding buildings enclosed by a stone wall with towers. The site served as the burial place for ten generations of the Rosenberg family and contains significant medieval artistic works including a remarkable panel altar with paintings from the 14th century.
