Amex just pivoted its flagship Platinum lodging perk toward short-term rentals. As of October 22, 2026, the $600 annual Hotel Credit is now the $600 Lodging Credit, and it works on prepaid Airbnb Luxe stays of two nights or more booked through Amex Travel.

This isn’t a random add-on. It’s a signal. FHR’s one-night credit loophole dies January 1, 2027. From then on, every qualifying stay—FHR, Hotel Collection, or Airbnb Luxe—needs at least two nights to trigger the $300 semiannual credits. Amex is clearly betting that business-class travelers want villas with private pools and full kitchens more than another sterile suite.

How the Lodging Credit Actually Works Now

Up to $300 back January–June and another $300 July–December. No enrollment required. Pay with your eligible Platinum card on prepaid bookings via AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel app. Link your Airbnb account first; the search shows a dedicated Homes tab with over a million listings, but only Airbnb Luxe properties qualify for the credit.

Airbnb Luxe means hand-vetted homes with 24/7 concierge, elevated design, and usually space for a family or team. Think multi-bedroom villas in Tuscany or beachfront compounds in Bali. Two-night minimum for the credit (same as Hotel Collection; FHR joins the club next year). The credit applies to the stay cost itself—perfect for those $1,000+ nightly villas that make more sense for a week than a quick overnight.

Bonus: 5x Membership Rewards points on prepaid Airbnb bookings through the portal, Luxe or not. That’s real value if you’re already spending five figures on international long stays.

The $250 Experiences Unlock: The Real Cherry

Book one qualifying prepaid Airbnb Luxe stay through Amex Travel and you unlock up to $250 in statement credits for Airbnb Experiences bought directly on Airbnb. No need to tie them to the same trip. Book the villa in Q4 2026, get the credit through December 31, then use it for cooking classes in Provence or private boat tours in 2027. It’s surprisingly flexible.

Unlike the lodging credit, this one doesn’t require using the $600 perk on that specific booking. Just confirm the Luxe reservation and the Experiences credit activates for the rest of the calendar year. Amex is essentially paying you to test their new integration.

Overlap with Existing FHR and Airbnb Luxe Perks

This is additive, not replacement. You still get FHR benefits on eligible hotel bookings, including one-night stays (you just won’t trigger the credit after 2026). Airbnb Luxe bookings through Amex Travel don’t magically add FHR-style breakfast or upgrades—the experience stays within Airbnb’s ecosystem. Host communication, check-in, and any issues route through Airbnb.

No double-dipping weirdness reported. The $600 Lodging pool is shared across FHR, Hotel Collection, and now Airbnb Luxe. Burn it on a villa instead of forcing another hotel night you don’t want. For long-stay international trips, this often makes more financial and logistical sense anyway.

Who Gets It: Personal, Business, Schwab, All of Them

The changes hit the Personal Platinum, Business Platinum, and variants like the Schwab Platinum. Same $600 annual cap, same two-night rules kicking in next year. If your card earns the old hotel credit, it now earns the new lodging version with the expanded options.

Availability is immediate for the Airbnb integration and Experiences unlock. The FHR two-night requirement is prospective—book those one-nighters before the calendar flips if that’s your move.

Is this Amex admitting FHR redemptions have grown stale and overpriced in many markets? Probably. Villas often deliver better space, privacy, and value for multi-adult groups or remote-work extended stays. The credit makes the math even friendlier.

Bottom line: if your 2027 travel involves two-plus nights in a high-end rental, route it through Amex Travel, use the Platinum, and collect both the lodging rebate and the Experiences kicker. It’s one of the cleaner statement credit expansions we’ve seen lately—less “use it or lose it on random hotels,” more “actually useful for how you already travel.”

Action item: Log into Amex Travel, link your Airbnb account, and scout Luxe properties for your next long international trip. Confirm a two-night prepaid booking before year-end to unlock the $250 Experiences credit while rates and availability are fresh. The pivot is here—might as well get paid for it.
