What to expect
You land by Zodiac at the tiny settlement, then walk roughly 30-40 minutes across sheep pasture and tussac to the cliff-top colony. Albatross pairs clatter bills overhead while rockhoppers scramble past on their commute to the sea. The Napier family, who have farmed the island for generations, often greet visitors and can point out nesting pairs and chicks depending on season.
Good to know
Landing is entirely weather- and Zodiac-dependent; wear waterproof boots and windproof layers. Best October-March when albatross are nesting; time your return to the settlement carefully against your ship's last tender.
