The fjord-like cliffs of the Calanques are best seen from the water, and a small local boat gets far closer to the coves than any big excursion vessel.
What to expect
You board a modest boat with a handful of other passengers and cruise past Port-Miou, Port-Pin, and En-Vau, the skipper cutting the engine in the quietest coves for photos and swimming. The scale of the white cliffs against the blue water is best appreciated from sea level. Trips run 45 minutes to 2.5 hours depending on which route you choose.
Good to know
Cassis is roughly 30–40 minutes from La Ciotat by taxi or local transfer; book the boat slot ahead as departures are weather-dependent and limited in number.
