Fernandina Snorkel: Flightless Cormorants & Sea Lions

Snorkel cold, nutrient-rich water where sea lions spiral around you and marine iguanas forage underwater, a behavior seen at almost no other reptile on Earth.

What to expect

You slip into cool Cromwell Current water off a black-sand cove and within minutes a juvenile sea lion arrives to inspect your mask. Marine iguanas dive past you to graze algae off submerged rock, an almost unique sight in the animal kingdom. Penguins occasionally torpedo through the same water. Guides keep the group tight and call out wildlife as it appears rather than herding for photos.

Good to know

Water is genuinely cold (wetsuit provided/recommended); confident swimmers only given occasional current. Book the specific Fernandina snorkel slot in advance as it's weather- and swell-dependent and sometimes swapped for a nearby site. Return transit to your ship's anchorage should be budgeted generously.
