Mangrove Panga Ride: Espinosa Point Shoreline

A quiet, engine-idled panga glide along Fernandina's mangrove-fringed lava coast, watching for rays, turtles, and Galapagos penguins without ever stepping ashore.

What to expect

Your driver cuts the engine near the mangroves and you drift past golden and spotted eagle rays gliding under the hull, green sea turtles surfacing to breathe, and the world's only Equator-dwelling penguins darting along the black rock edge. Sally Lightfoot crabs blaze red against the lava. It's contemplative rather than active - binoculars and a good guide do the work.

Good to know

Best scheduled for late afternoon light; confirm timing works against your ship's departure. No landing involved, so it suits those wanting wildlife without a wet or dry landing. Bring a zoom lens - wildlife stays a respectful distance from the boat.
