Guna Yala by Private Panga: Cartí Islands & Reef

A private panga boat threads you through the Cartí archipelago at your own pace, hopping between three uncrowded islets and a coral reef for snorkeling before the day-trip crowds arrive.

What to expect

A private vehicle collects you for the roughly 2-hour drive over the mountains to the Cartí port, where your own panga and Guna boat captain are waiting. You'll visit two or three islands chosen with your guide — one for snorkeling over a reef, one a near-empty sandbar for swimming and lunch. A private beach lunch of fresh fish, coconut rice, and fruit is included, eaten under a palm shelter you won't be sharing with fifty other visitors.

Good to know

Land transfer alone runs 2–2.5 hours each way; confirm your ship's all-aboard time leaves enough margin — this is realistically only feasible on a long port day. Bring cash for island entry fees and Guna-made molas if you want to buy directly from the women who make them.
