Walk a stretch of the Rakiura Track through untouched podocarp forest and along deserted coastline — New Zealand's Great Walk that almost nobody does.
What to expect
You'll follow boardwalk and forest trail past ancient rimu and rata, with stops at empty beaches and lookout points over Halfmoon Bay. Your guide narrates the island's Maori and sealing history along the way. The trail is well-formed but genuinely wild-feeling, with a good chance of birdlife sightings. It ends back near Oban in time for your ship.
Good to know
Choose the shorter southern loop for a half-day fit; wear proper walking shoes as sections can be muddy.
