North Cape Museum & Historic WWII Convoy Story

A quiet, uncrowded museum room inside the Nordkapp visitor centre tracing the Arctic convoys and the cape's role as a wartime naval battleground.

What to expect

Inside the visitor centre, past the panoramic film everyone queues for, is a low-key exhibition on the sinking of the German battleship Scharnhorst just offshore in 1943 and the brutal Arctic convoy runs that supplied the Soviet Union. Original artefacts and firsthand accounts give real weight to the empty ocean you've just been looking at. It takes 30-40 minutes and is almost always uncrowded, since most visitors leave straight after the cliff photo.

Good to know

Combine with the plateau visit rather than as a separate trip; go in after the main film crowd disperses for a nearly private room.
