Acrocorinth: Sunrise Climb to the Citadel of Aphrodite

A licensed guide walks you through the greatest medieval fortress in Greece before tour buses arrive, when the light and silence make its scale sink in.

What to expect

You drive up the switchback road to 575m as the site opens, well ahead of coach groups still finishing breakfast in Athens. Your guide traces the fortress's changing hands from antiquity through the Ottomans using the actual walls as the text. You wander the upper citadel's chapel ruins and cisterns at your own pace, then descend before the midday heat and crowds arrive.

Good to know

Wear real shoes — the terrain is uneven rock and loose gravel. Best done as the very first stop of the day, before Ancient Corinth below, and allow 2-2.5 hours including drive time.
