The Corinth Canal, Privately, at the Zaravtsa Bridge & by Boat

See the 6.4km cut sea-level canal from the sinking road bridge, then actually pass through it on a small chartered boat rather than just photographing it from above.

What to expect

You start at the submersible road bridge and watch it lower into the seabed for a passing vessel — a genuinely strange piece of engineering. Then you board a small boat at Isthmia and motor the full length of the canal, walls rising vertically on either side, built in the 1890s on a route Nero himself once tried to dig. It's a 45-60 minute transit, quiet and dramatic in a way no viewing platform captures.

Good to know

Canal transits depend on shipping traffic and sea conditions — book with flexibility built in. Time this early or mid-morning; it pairs well before or after Ancient Corinth.
