What to expect
You land by Zodiac at Coffin's Harbour or Ship Harbour and walk out along tussac-covered cliffs. A resident warden points out nesting behaviour, chick stages, and the resident caracaras that will happily inspect your boots. The colony is one of the most accessible mixed albatross-penguin sites in the South Atlantic, with birds often just a few metres from the path.
Good to know
Landing is weather-dependent and via small boat only; wear waterproof boots. Time on the island is usually 3-4 hours — build in a buffer before all-aboard as Zodiac operations can be slow in swell.
