Sokcho Jungang Market: Private Seafood & Street Food Tasting

Plunge into Sokcho's legendary Jungang Market — the beating culinary heart of Korea's East Sea coast — on a private guided tasting tour led by a local food expert. Graze on live squid, odeng fish cake, and freshly grilled flatfish steps from the boats that caught them.

What to expect

Sokcho's Jungang (Central) Market is one of Korea's most vibrant coastal food markets, its lanes piled with the freshest haul from the East Sea — live abalone, king crab, snow crab, and the famed Sokcho flatfish (gajami). Your guide introduces you to odeng (fish cake skewers) simmering in fragrant broth, freshly grilled hairtail fish, and the local speciality of Abai sausage — a smoky, chewy delicacy brought to Sokcho by North Korean refugees. You'll also cross on the hand-pulled Gaetbae cable ferry to nearby Abai Village, a poignant community with a remarkable culinary story. The market is a 10-minute taxi ride from the cruise terminal.

Good to know

The market is most alive in the morning — aim to arrive by 9–10 am for the freshest produce and most authentic atmosphere. Wear comfortable shoes; the lanes are narrow and lively. Cash (Korean Won) is useful for smaller vendors. The Gaetbae ferry costs approximately KRW 500 and is a charming experience in itself.
