Traverse one of the world's great mountain journeys — a chain of cable cars, trolley buses, and ropeways through the snow-corridor peaks of the Northern Japan Alps. Standing atop Murodo (2,450 m) with walls of snow towering overhead is genuinely once-in-a-lifetime.
What to expect
Board the Toyama Chihō Railway from Toyama Station before 8 a.m., then ascend through seven distinct modes of mountain transport including a glass-walled ropeway above a volcanic plateau. At Murodo, walk the Mikurigaike Pond loop surrounded by steaming fumaroles and, in spring, the legendary 20-metre snow corridor. Return to Toyama with time to spare for a late-afternoon kaiseki dinner.
