Strap into a high-speed RIB and roar around the dramatic sea stacks and volcanic archipelago of Vestmannaeyjar — spotting puffins, seals, and the iconic Elephant Rock from the water. The most exhilarating perspective of the islands.
What to expect
Your skipper navigates the network of islets and sea stacks surrounding Heimaey, pulling close to wave-carved caves and dramatic cliff faces where thousands of seabirds nest. Elephant Rock — a basalt stack uncannily shaped like a drinking elephant — is the signature moment. On calmer days, the RIB glides into sea caves; expect spray, sea air, and sightings of Atlantic puffins, gannets, and possibly grey seals hauled out on the rocks. Safety gear is provided.
Good to know
Tours depart from Heimaey harbour, a short walk from the pier. Dress in warm, windproof layers — it is significantly colder on the water. Tours run approximately 60–90 minutes, leaving ample time before all-aboard. Seas can be lively; not suitable for guests with severe motion sickness.
