Trek the flat-top volcanic peak rising above Neiafu for a jaw-dropping 360° panorama of 55 islands scattered across an impossibly blue sea. Tonga's most iconic viewpoint, just 20 minutes from the wharf.
What to expect
Your guide meets you at the wharf and leads a gentle but rewarding 20-minute ascent through dense tropical forest alive with birdsong. The plateau summit is a flat garden of wildflowers and ancient rock formations; the view is staggering — islands in every direction, the deep-water harbour below, and on clear days the faint outline of outer atolls. The guide weaves in stories of Tongan mythology and the legend of the cliff's guardian spirit. The descent swings through Neiafu village for fresh coconut water at a local stall.
Good to know
Suitable for most fitness levels — a steady climb on a well-maintained path; wear sturdy shoes. Can be self-visited free of charge, but the private guide elevates it entirely. Allow 3 hours for hike + village stroll. Trailhead is a 10-minute taxi from the tender dock.
