Board a private open-top 4×4 for a thrilling early-morning game drive in Yala — home to the world's highest density of wild leopards. Elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, and hundreds of bird species complete a wildlife spectacle unlike anywhere in Asia.
What to expect
Depart Galle at dawn for the 2.5-hour drive east to Yala Block I — the park's most biodiverse zone. Your naturalist-driver scouts fresh pug marks and bird alarms to position you ahead of the action. A morning golden light safari (6–10 am) is prime leopard time; you may also encounter wild elephants bathing, painted storks nesting, and mugger crocodiles basking along the Menik River. A gourmet picnic breakfast is served in a scenic clearing. Afternoon return allows comfortable arrival before all-aboard.
Good to know
Round trip from Galle port is approximately 5–6 hours of driving; plan for a 5 am departure to maximise wildlife activity and return by early afternoon. Yala park entry fee (approx. USD 25/person) is included by most operators — confirm at booking. Wear muted, earth-toned clothing.
