Slip away to Bamboo Island (Koh Pos) — a tiny, almost untouched coral-fringed atoll a short boat ride from Sihanoukville — for a day of extraordinary solitude, snorkelling and hammock-swaying in the shade of casuarina pines.
What to expect
The longtail skims across glassy water, threading between fishing boats and arriving at a crescent of ivory sand fringed by tropical forest. The underwater world directly off the beach is spectacularly clear — masked and finned, you'll drift over brain coral and schools of sergeant-major fish in water the colour of pale jade. Back on shore, hammocks are strung between the pines and your captain will arrange a simple cooler of fresh fruit and cold drinks. Time moves differently here.
Good to know
Depart Tourist Port early (by 9 AM) to maximise your island time. Negotiate the private longtail charter directly at the port — agree the return pick-up time explicitly. Bring all supplies (water, sunscreen, snacks) as there are no facilities. Allow 5–6 hours total.
