Journey into Mauritius's volcanic interior to witness the surreal multicoloured dunes of Chamarel Geopark and the island's grandest national park. A once-in-a-lifetime landscape found nowhere else on Earth.
What to expect
Your private vehicle collects you at the terminal and winds up through sugar-cane plateaus into the lush highlands. At Chamarel, you stand before undulating dunes of rust, violet, green, and ochre — volcanic soils that refuse to mix even after rainfall. The adjacent Chamarel Waterfall, one of Mauritius's tallest, plunges into a jungle gorge below. A detour into Black River Gorges National Park offers macaque sightings, rare Mauritian fruit bats, and panoramic valley views. Lunch at a boutique Chamarel restaurant (Creole tasting menu, additional cost) completes the experience.
