Whisper from the centre of the Theatre of Epidaurus and be heard clearly in the back row — one of antiquity's most astonishing acoustic feats. A private guide leads you through the ancient Sanctuary of Asclepius, god of healing, in all its serene, olive-grove splendour.
What to expect
Set amid fragrant pines 45 minutes from Nafplio, the Theatre of Epidaurus seats 14,000 yet achieves perfect acoustics from every one of its 55 tiers — your guide demonstrates this memorably. Beyond the theatre, the sanctuary complex includes the Tholos, the Abaton (incubation hall), and a superb on-site museum housing original marble sculptures. The spiritual atmosphere of a place built for healing is palpable. The return drive follows the Argolic coast, with sea views all the way back to Nafplio.
Good to know
Epidaurus is 45 minutes by car from Nafplio port — factor this carefully against all-aboard time; a 5–6 hour excursion window is ideal. The site is partly shaded but bring a hat and water in summer. If combining with Mycenae, a full-day private itinerary is the way to do both justice.
