Rise above the 'City of Roses' to the legendary Varden viewpoint at 407 m, where 222 named Alpine peaks frame a perfect fjord panorama. On a clear day, this is simply one of the great views in all of Scandinavia.
What to expect
A comfortable coach winds up through birch forests above Molde, delivering you to the Varden summit, where a sweeping 180-degree panorama reveals the Romsdalsfjord below and a jagged crown of Alpine peaks — all named on an engraved orientation table. The audio guide brings each summit to life with mountaineering history and Norse mythology. On a clear summer day the view stretches to the Trolltindene massif and beyond. The descent passes rose-laden boulevards for a final glimpse of why Molde earned its floral nickname.
Good to know
Allow 2.5–3 hours. The viewpoint is accessible by foot (steep 45-min hike) or by car/bus. Book the guided bus departure timed to your port schedule. Bring sunglasses — the mountain light is intense. Weather can change rapidly; a clear morning is your best window.
