Ascend the legendary Trollstigen — 'Troll's Path' — a gravity-defying series of 11 hairpin bends cut into a vertical cliff face beside a thundering waterfall. One of Europe's most spectacular mountain drives, and a true Norwegian bucket-list moment.
What to expect
Your private driver-guide heads south from Molde into the Romsdalen valley, where sheer granite walls close in on either side and the river roars below. The ascent of Trollstigen is breathtaking at every bend — waterfalls cascade beside the road and the valley floor shrinks away beneath you. At the summit, the award-winning Trollstigen National Tourist Route Visitor Centre hangs over the cliff edge, offering glass-floored viewing platforms and a café with the most dramatic panorama in Norway. The descent returns through the pastoral Rauma valley with views of the Romsdal Alps.
Good to know
Trollstigen is open approximately late May to October — confirm current season status. Allow a full day: 6–7 hours from Molde port. This is a high-altitude mountain road; dress in warm layers even in summer. Pre-book your private guide well ahead — this is one of the most requested routes in Norway.
