Descend into Drogarati Cave's vast concert hall — a 65-metre-wide chamber adorned with 150-million-year-old stalactites and stalagmites of extraordinary scale. Internationally renowned for its acoustics, it has hosted operatic performances.
What to expect
A wide, well-lit staircase descends 40 metres into a cathedral of stone. The air is cool and still at 18°C year-round — a relief on warm Ionian days. Your guide explains the cave's 100-million-year formation and points out formations with evocative names. The vast 'Sala of Apotheosis' is the centrepiece: enormous, hushed, and genuinely awe-inspiring.
Good to know
Drogarati is 5 km from Sami (10-minute taxi ride, ~EUR 12 each way). It pairs perfectly with Melissani Cave nearby for a half-day twin-cave itinerary. Wear closed-toe shoes — the path can be slippery. The cave is cool inside; bring a light layer.
