Stand on the rim of a dormant volcano gazing down at twin crater lakes — one emerald, one sapphire — on a private Jeep safari across São Miguel's wildest landscapes. This is the Azores' single most iconic image, earned on your own terms.
What to expect
Your private driver-guide collects you dockside and heads west through volcanic farmland to the Sete Cidades caldera. You descend into the crater to walk the isthmus between the blue and green lakes before climbing to the north-coast miradouros for Atlantic panoramas. The return route weaves through hydrangea-lined lanes and the black-sand beach at Mosteiros, arriving back well before all-aboard.
Good to know
Sete Cidades is 45 minutes from port; allow a full-day booking (6–7 hrs) to do it justice. Pre-book in advance — private vehicles fill quickly on port days. Confirm your all-aboard time with your guide at pick-up.
