Walk suspended bridges over an underground canyon so vast it dwarfs any cathedral — Škocjan's Silent Cave and Murmuring Cave are a UNESCO World Heritage marvel and, for many, the more breathtaking of Slovenia's two great cave systems.
What to expect
A knowledgeable park ranger leads you through the Dry Cave's extraordinary stalactite chambers before the path descends dramatically into the Murmuring Cave — a 2km underground canyon with the Reka River roaring 150 metres below. The swinging Hanke Bridge above the gorge is genuinely vertiginous and utterly exhilarating. The tour ends in sunlight via a natural collapsed doline, a finale as theatrical as the caves themselves.
Good to know
Tours depart at fixed times (check official site for schedule); cave temperature is 12°C — bring a light jacket. The park is a 45-minute drive from Koper port; combine with a Lipica Stud Farm visit for a full Karst day. Book official entry tickets in advance in July–August.
