Swim beneath a scalding waterfall that pours directly into a cool jungle river — Finca Paraíso is one of Central America's most otherworldly natural phenomena, and it's barely known outside Guatemala.
What to expect
Finca Paraíso (Paradise Farm) sits on the northern shore of Lago de Izabal, about 1.5 hours from port. A short jungle trail leads to the showpiece: a boiling hot spring that jets from a cliff face as a proper waterfall and splashes into a crystal-clear cold river pool below — you swim through the dramatic temperature contrast in a curtain of steam. The surrounding forest is alive with toucans, herons, and howler monkeys. Your naturalist guide points out medicinal plants and orchids on the walk back.
Good to know
Bring two swimsuits — one for the falls, one dry for the drive back. The trail is easy but can be slippery; water shoes or sandals with grip recommended. Depart port by 8 AM; back comfortably by 2:30 PM. Entry to Finca Paraíso is approximately USD 5 per person and typically included.
