Panama Canal Railway: Private Dome Car — Pacific to Atlantic

Ride the historic Panama Canal Railway in a private dome car from Panama City to Colón — 77 km across the isthmus in 60 minutes, flanked by jungle and Gatun Lake. One of the world's great short rail journeys, virtually unchanged since 1855.

What to expect

The train departs Panama City's Corozal station and almost immediately plunges into lush rainforest, crossing trestle bridges above Gatun Lake's island-studded expanse. The dome car's 270-degree glass ceiling floods the carriage with soft green light as spider monkeys work the canopy above. A local historian-guide aboard the private car narrates the railway's extraordinary role in both the Gold Rush and the canal construction. In Colón, a waiting private vehicle returns you to Fuerte Amador — you've crossed an entire continent in an hour.
