Sail to the lush, car-free island of Nosy Sakatia for an intimate encounter with giant sea turtles in their natural coastal habitat, followed by snorkelling over pristine coral gardens teeming with endemic Indian Ocean marine life. Madagascar's best-kept marine secret.
What to expect
A sleek private speedboat delivers you to Sakatia's calm western bay in under 30 minutes. Giant green turtles rest on the seabed and surface languidly for air — you float alongside them in crystalline, current-free water. The coral gardens here rival the Maldives for colour and fish density: lionfish, moray eels, reef sharks and clouds of anthias. A beach picnic of fresh tropical fruit, grilled catch and Malagasy rum punch follows before an unhurried return to port.
Good to know
Half-day tour (approx. 4 hrs), making it an excellent morning excursion that pairs well with an afternoon Mont Passot sunset. Sakatia is approx. 20 mins from the cruise pier by speedboat. Encounter with turtles is wild and cannot be guaranteed, though sightings are frequent year-round. Bring underwater camera; snorkel equipment included in private charter price.
