What to expect

The 17th-century gatehouse and estate chapel give way to a house that tells the full story of Victorian country life across 50 rooms, from the servants' wing to the family's lavish private apartments. Outside, a formal parterre of clipped yews and seasonal bedding leads into glorious higher gardens famous for magnolias and rhododendrons. The woodland walks along the River Fowey below the house are among the most beautiful in England.

A private taxi from Fowey Town Quay to Lanhydrock takes 15–20 minutes each way (approx. GBP 25–30 each way; book in advance). National Trust members enter free. Allow a minimum of 2.5–3 hours on-site. Pre-book entry online to guarantee access on busy summer days.
