Glide deep into the King George River gorge by Zodiac to stand beneath the 80m twin cascades of Oomari — the tallest twin waterfalls in Australia — in one of the most remote and pristine wilderness spectacles on Earth.
What to expect
Board an inflatable Zodiac and motor between sheer sandstone cliffs banded in ochre, rust and cream, watching freshwater crocodiles bask on ledges above the tidal line. As the gorge narrows, the roar builds until the twin falls explode into view — a wall of white water plunging 80m into a jade-green plunge pool. Your guide cuts the engine and you drift in near-silence, close enough to feel the mist on your face. On select runs, a guided swim at the base is possible in the cooler freshwater pool above the tidal mixing zone.
Good to know
The King George River is only accessible by sea; this excursion departs from an anchored expedition vessel. Confirm your cruise vessel's tender schedule and all-aboard time — Zodiac runs typically last 2–3 hours. Pre-book well in advance as small-group numbers (max 10–12 per Zodiac) fill quickly. Wear non-slip shoes and a sun hat; a dry bag is provided.
