Join a private conservation-led night walk on Príncipe's remote beaches to witness nesting sea turtles — one of West Africa's most extraordinary wildlife encounters. Access is controlled and numbers are tiny, making this a genuine once-in-a-lifetime moment.
What to expect
After dark a 4WD collects you from port for a short drive to a protected nesting beach. Your conservation guide — who monitors these turtles year-round — leads the group in total silence along the shoreline. When a turtle is located, you crouch in the sand as she excavates her nest and lays eggs under a sky full of equatorial stars. The return journey includes a short briefing on HBD's turtle-tagging programme.
Good to know
Seasonal (principal nesting: October–March). Must be pre-booked weeks in advance; numbers are capped at 4–6 guests. Confirm ship's overnight schedule — this excursion requires the ship to be in port after dusk. Bring insect repellent and closed shoes.
