Réunion's warm west-coast waters host resident spinner dolphins, migrating humpback whales (June–Oct) and green sea turtles year-round. A private catamaran puts you in the water alongside them with a marine biologist guide — pure Indian Ocean magic.
What to expect
Departing Saint-Gilles marina, your catamaran heads to the spinner dolphin grounds within 15 minutes. Pods of 50–200 animals frequently bow-ride and leap alongside. Snorkelling among them — supervised by your biologist — is an encounter of startling intimacy. Between June and October, humpback whale song is audible underwater and sightings of mothers with calves are common. Green turtles surface lazily near the reef on the return.
Good to know
Saint-Gilles-les-Bains is 20 minutes by taxi from La Possession port. Morning departures (07:30–08:00) give calmer seas and best dolphin activity. Pre-book the private charter directly with Corail Plongée at least one week ahead. Half-day format leaves comfortable time before all-aboard.
