Ascend to the crater rim of Lombok's sacred volcano, Mount Rinjani, for a jaw-dropping sunrise over a turquoise crater lake and sweeping views to Bali. One of Southeast Asia's most dramatic natural spectacles, accessible as a private day hike.
What to expect
A private 4WD collects you at Lembar port before dawn, driving ~2 hours to Senaru trailhead. Your certified guide leads you through ancient rainforest alive with black monkeys and bird calls before the treeline opens to volcanic moonscape. At the crater rim (2,639 m), the panorama of Segara Anak lake and steaming Gunung Baru is utterly humbling. Descend at your own pace with a packed gourmet lunch at a scenic rest point.
Good to know
This is a strenuous half-day hike to the rim (not the summit); a reasonable level of fitness is required. Depart Lembar no later than 05:30. Pre-book 1 week ahead to secure a licensed guide. Return to port by ~16:00.
