Zanzibar Day Trip: Stone Town & Spice Farm by Speedboat

Dart across the Indian Ocean by private speedboat to UNESCO-listed Stone Town — a living medieval Arab-Swahili city of carved doors, labyrinthine lanes, and legendary spice culture. One of the most atmospheric days possible from any East African port.

What to expect

Board Azam Marine's high-speed catamaran from the Dar es Salaam ferry terminal for the 90-minute crossing to Zanzibar. In Stone Town, a specialist guide leads you through the Old Fort, the Slave Memorial, the House of Wonders, and the narrow perfumed alleys of Hurumzi. A private transfer takes you to a traditional spice farm, where you taste, smell, and pick cloves, cardamom, vanilla, and cinnamon. Return in the late afternoon, sun-warmed and steeped in Swahili history.

Good to know

The fast ferry departs Dar at approximately 07:00 and 10:00; book the 07:00 sailing for maximum time ashore. Passport is required as Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous region. Confirm return sailing times against your all-aboard — the 16:00 ferry back gives comfortable margin. Book ferry tickets directly at azammarine.com well ahead on cruise port days.
