Curieuse Island & St. Pierre: Private Boat, Giant Tortoises & BBQ

Board a private boat to Curieuse Island — a protected marine park where 300 free-roaming Aldabra giant tortoises share pristine beaches with ancient mangroves. Snorkel St. Pierre's technicolour reef, then feast on a fresh Creole BBQ under the palms.

What to expect

Your private boat slips out of Baie Sainte Anne across glittering jade water to Curieuse, where Aldabra giant tortoises — some over 100 years old — lumber freely across red-earth beaches and mangrove boardwalks. A knowledgeable local guide explains the island's remarkable tortoise rehabilitation programme. The boat then anchors off St. Pierre islet, whose shallow coral garden bursts with sea turtles, rays and reef sharks; snorkel gear and fins are provided. A Creole BBQ spread of grilled fish, octopus salad, rice and tropical fruit is laid out on the beach before a leisurely return.
