Paddle a hand-carved traditional outrigger canoe across Fanning's impossibly turquoise lagoon guided by an I-Kiribati master paddler. One of the last places on earth where this ancient Micronesian craft is still a daily reality, not a performance.
What to expect
Your guide launches from the village beach and sets a course across the mirror-flat lagoon interior, reading wind and tide as his ancestors did. En route he explains traditional wayfinding using stars, swell, and bird behaviour. You're invited to paddle, or simply sit and absorb the extraordinary silence of the atoll. The journey ends on a remote sandbar for a private coconut break before the return crossing. Maximum 4 guests per canoe preserves the intimacy.
Good to know
Book in advance through the lodge contact link. Wear reef shoes and light UV-protective clothing; the equatorial sun is fierce. Confirm tender logistics with your ship and allow 2.5 hours total including transfer. This experience is tide-dependent — your guide will adjust timing accordingly.
