Pedal a curated route through the heart of the Camargue to the legendary Phare de la Gacholle lighthouse, arriving at dusk when thousands of flamingos converge on the étangs in a wash of pink and gold light. Serene, unhurried and unforgettable.
What to expect
Departing on quality e-bikes, the route follows a flat, car-free dyke through saltpans, rice paddies and reed beds — the air heady with wild herbs and sea salt. The guide pauses at a hide overlooking the Étang du Fangassier, where the Camargue's largest flamingo colony breeds, for a sustained and silent wildlife watch. At the lighthouse itself — a handsome 19th-century beacon at the edge of the Rhône delta — the panorama across the étangs to the open Mediterranean is vast and luminous. The return ride in the cooling evening air, with egrets lifting from the reeds, is pure magic.
